App’Olympics day

Knucklas Castle Community Land Project Posted on 26 October 2012 by Kevin5 February 2015

KCCLP App’Olympics 2012

– the annual apple day on Castle Hill on Sunday 21st October was a great success; the weather was wonderful (the last before a very gloomy spell) with bright, warm sun. About 200 people came, including many kids, who had a great time in the “App’Olympics” events – apple & spoon races, apple shying, apple bobbing, etc. Prizes were awarded to many of them.

Apple pressing for the juice was limited this year because of the poor harvest, but those who came went away very happy.

An apple cake competition was very successful, and the cakes went with tea & coffee. There was a barbecue and apple and juice tasting.

Look forward to next year!

Many thanks to Mark Walters for this new view.

It raises some interesting questions about the way the castle has been used over the many years of its existence.

We are also on the Welsh governments catalogue of heritage buildings here Coflein

Site & location

The 21 acre site, including a Cadw scheduled monument, has been bought by some philanthropic locals who are leasing it to KCCLP whilst the money is raised to purchase the site for the whole community.

Surrounding Area

Sited at the confluence of the Teme and Heyope valleys in Radnorshire, Knucklas Castle overlooks Shropshire's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Offa's Dyke and the River Teme, the border between Wales and England. This part of Wales has many delights to discover.
